Our Story

The GastroPak project is a collaborative effort between experts from the UK and Pakistan, supported through the UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). Our project is rooted in a shared commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing the global burden of gastroenteritis, a widespread and often deadly infection of the stomach and small intestine.

Our story began with the recognition of a critical need for capacity building in Pakistan for pathogen surveillance and detection. Through the deployment of cutting-edge equipment and protocols, our multidisciplinary team of social scientists, microbiologists, engineers, epidemiologists, chemists, and statisticians is working to identify and understand the various social, biological, chemical, and technical factors that contribute to the spread of gastroenteritis.

At GastroPak, we are dedicated to taking an interdisciplinary approach to addressing the challenges of gastroenteritis, working closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to develop effective strategies for prevention and control. Through our research, we aim to advance our understanding of the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of gastroenteritis, and to develop innovative tools and interventions to improve health outcomes for people around the world.

As we continue to build capacity and expertise in pathogen surveillance and detection in Pakistan, we remain committed to our mission of reducing the global burden of gastroenteritis and improving the health and well-being of people everywhere.
